So what is the first sweet of 2011?

This retro sweet is a British icon, and we reckon it’s bound to bring back many a happy memory.

It even made headlines last year, when the packaging was changed from paper to plastic.

Of course, it could only be…

The classic Sherbet Fountain!

The classic Sherbet Fountain!

We miss how the paper used to go soggy on the traditional tubes, but at least these ones last longer cause you can reseal ’em!

What do you think?

Do you love the Sherbet Fountain all the same, or are you longing for the paper tube?

Remember to let us know what you think of this weeks Retro sweet of the week, to be in with the chance of WINNING some sweet treats!

Yummy!

Amazing sweet of the week! Brings back so many memories! Suffered many a choughing fit from breathing in the sherbet haha.

  2. Fiona says:

the fizz on your tongue and the chewy licquorice yum! then trying to get every last bit out of that cardboard tube……lasted hours!

  3. Michelle says:

Sherbet fountains always remind me of my dad, he loves them and told me he used to have them all the time when he was little, so each time I see them I have to buy one for him, and I also love the fact he shares it with me =)

this is a sweet for young and old alike. My mum will be 70 in july and still buys herself sherbet fountains when she sees them in the shop.

  6. Julie Maker says:

Loved these as a kid and still do as a big grown up kid 😉
But why oh why did they have to go messing with the packaging and liquorish stick!? I’m guessing hygiene but surely you naughty but gorgeous people at Bassett could have simply left it in its cardboard and covered the liquorish with sealed paper. I find I can only eat it with a wet finger now, which I used to do when i had eaten all the liquorish anyway. Still a favorite but Boooooooo to the new packaging

  7. Suz says:

I used to get these as a treat back in the 70s – Sunday to sit and watch the Muppet Show after bathtime. Fab!

  8. Amy Jeffryes says:

Now if I’m honest, I always bought Sherbet Fountains, but never actually ate the licorice stick!! I’d empty the sherbet into a dish and eat it with a spoon! And the licorice went to my dad! YUM! x

  9. Sophie Dykes says:

Love these!! I used to (and still do) eat all the liquorice with the first quarter of the sherbet then give myself choking fits pouring sherbet into my mouth! Brilliant!!

  10. Vita says:

Oh gosh.. I love these my guilty secret! I was obsessed withthem while i was pregnant, i eat the liquorice first then devour the sherbert,….that has to be the best way 🙂

  11. Sharne machin says:

Hate licourice but loved these used to just put my finger in and when you couldn’t reach the bottom just tipped it all in 🙂
